The Small Computer and Its Impact on the Field Grade Officer.

Abstract

This report summarizes the evolution of the small computer in the Air Force workplace. It discusses the move to a standardized hardware/software system and the benefits it entails. It further emphasizes the many uses of the small computer within the military environment and compares the use with that already being performed in the civilian setting. In addition, there is a discussion of the impact of the small computer on the field grade officer and its ability to help him in his day-to-day work. Lastly there is an analysis of the education and training necessary in order to effectively utilize this new machine and a position is put forth that ACSC is an excellent forum for conducting this learning.
