The Mediterranean: Geostrategic Study and Evaluation.

Abstract

The Mediterranean has been traditionally the scene of the confrontation between East-West. There is a continuous struggle between the United States and USSR to control the waters and the accesses to this interior sea. But there is an additional factor, due to the tension North-South, that has appeared after the decolonization process of the 1950's. These facts, the relations of Spain with the Maghreb countries and the other nations in the Mediterranean basin, and the role of Spain as a new NATO member, are the points addressed in this essay.
