Army Implementation of DoD and Federal Standards. Executive Summary.

Abstract

This report summarizes an effort to identify standards that will support efficiency, effectiveness, and interoperability in the Army Information Mission Area. The approach and results are treated in detail in Volume 1, 'Recommendations', and its associated annexes. Guidance for use in formulating acquisition instruments is contained in Volume 2, 'Implementation Guidance.' In general, a large body of standardization that is potentially useful to the Army was found in the telecommunications and automation areas. These standards are also of value to the records management, visual information, and publishing and printing areas, to the extent that these areas plan migration to the use of automation and telecommunications to support their missions. Otherwise, considerably fewer standards were found that would be of value to the records management, visual information, and publishing and printing areas. Keywords: Management information systems, Communications networks. (SDW)
