Criteria for Matrix Dominated Failure

Abstract

This paper discusses methods for characterizing the matrix controlled strength of composite materials, fracture of adhesives and the failure of adhesively bonded repairs. Attention is focused on the Tsai-Wu, point stress, energy density and energy release rate approaches and the relationship between these various failure theories. Keywords: Australia; Delamination; Failure criteria; Composite materials; Bonded repairs. (mjm)
