A GPS (Global Positioning System) Information and Data System for the Civil Community. Volume 1. Determination of the Requirements of the Civil GPS user Community
Abstract
The Global Positioning System (GPS) will be an operational military navigation system, but the civil community will have access, with degraded accuracy, to this system. The requirements for information and data about the GPS system for the civil community were investigated. An organizational structure, the Civil GPS Service (CGS), was designated to have overall administrative responsibility and the Civil GPS Service (CGS), was designated to have overall administrative responsibility and the Civil GPS Information Center (CGIC) to have the responsibility of data nd information acquisition and dissemination. The civil users were contacted through a questionaire and a workshop, an interface control document (ICD) was developed between the GPS operational COntrol Segment (OCS) ant eh CGIC, and a system level design was developed for the CGIC. Additional information about GPS was compiled in a bibliography on differential GPS, in a glossary of standard GPS terms, and in a compendium of user equipment. Keywords: Radio navigation; Artificial satellites; Position(location), Navigational aids; Position finding, Operational Status, and Capability(OPSCAP); OPSCAP Reporting and Management System (ORMS).
