Arctic Oceanography and Meteorology Review

Abstract

This report presents an overview of Arctic oceanography and meteorology in addition to acoustic properties of the Arctic Ocean relevant to sonar system performance. Acoustic modeling techniques appropriate to ice- covered ocean areas are also discussed. Environmental-acoustic data are identified which can support sonar performance modeling efforts. Keywords: Sea ice; Underice reverberation; Ocean bottom; Water masses; Ambient noise; Acoustic data; Acoustic velocity; Underwater sound transmission; Transmission loss.
