Transformational Generative Grammar: A Survey

Abstract

This report is a survey of past, current, and on-going research in the field of Generative Grammars. The paper assumes no previous knowledge in the field and includes an overview of phrase structure and transformational grammars. An overview is also given of the work done by Peters and Ritchie (1973) on Formalizing Transformations and is essential for an understanding of the field.
