Modifications of well Defined Polysilanes. (Preprint)

Abstract

Different homo and copolysilanes are prepared using sonochemical reductive coupling of disubstituted dichlorosilanes with sodium. Polymers formed in the presence of ultrasound are monomodal and can have polydispersity as low as M sub w/M sub n < 1.2. Polysilanes containing aryl groups are dearylated upon treatment with strong protonic acids such as triflic acid. The resulting triflated polysilanes react readily with different nucleophiles providing alkoxy and amino substituted polysilanes. Triflated polymers react with monomers which can be polymerized cationically and form graft copolymers.
