New Non-Linear Optical Polymers

Abstract

The synthesis of a new monomer, N,N-diaminoethyl-4-nitroamiline (DANA), which will be condensed with various diacyl halides to yield polyamides with interesting optical properties was achieved. Several compounds containing potentially 'electrically leaky' atoms between donor (amino) and acceptor (nitro) moieties was prepared. The key finding is that the sulfide is extremely NLO-active.
