Characterization of Biofouling Marine Caulobacters and Their Adhesive Holdfast

Abstract

The goals of this project are: a) To isolate marine Caulobacter bacteria and characterize them by physiological and genetic criteria, b) analyze the adhesive holdfast organelles of various isolates via solution and chemical analysis and cloning of holdfast related genes, and c) develop and characterize the capabilities of marine Caulobacters for molecular genetic manipulation.
