Preparation and Structure of Li-Stabilized Na(+) Beta' Alumina Single Crystals

Abstract

Single crystals of Lithium-stabilized Sodium-Beta alumina were grown from homogeneous melts of NaA1O2 and LiVO3 on slow cooling from 1600 to 1300 C. Single crystal X-ray diffraction indicates that Li substitutes for A1(2) and A1(4) in an ordered fashion. The sodium ion distribution exhibits no short-range order effects.
