Development of Aiming Rules for the 25-mm Gun of the Bradley Fighting Vehicle

Abstract

This research note describes the development of aiming rules to optimize the first-round accuracy of the 25-mm gun when it is used to engage moving articles from a stationary Bradley Fighting Vehicle (lead rule) and to engage stationary targets from a moving vehicle (reverse-lead rule). Section of rules was based on predicted target hit capabilities, and ease of use and training. Rules were expressed as simple words which described the relationship of the target to the sight reticle. Developing aiming rules will replace previous rules presented in the Bradley Fighting Vehicle Gunnery Field Manual. FM 23-1. Keywords: 25-MM Automatic gun, M242C Guns, Bradley fighting vehicle, Moving target engagements, Aiming rules.
