Theoretical Study of the Radiative and Kinetic Properties of Selected Metal Oxides and Air Molecules

Abstract

The release of certain chemical species into the upper atmosphere results in luminous clouds that display the resonance electronic-vibration- rotation spectra of the chemically reacting species. Such spectra are seen in rocket releases of chemicals for upper atmospheric studies, upon re-entry into the atmosphere of artificial satellites and missiles, and as a result of energy deposition in the atmosphere caused by nuclear weapons effects. Of particular interest in this connection is the observed spectra of certain metallic oxides.
