Implementation Issues for Level 0 Image Processor Software within an Application Package
Abstract
Image processing is rapidly emerging as a field with many interesting areas for the computer scientist. Packaging are available that allow images to be manipulated in an iteractive environment by applying functions to the image. Functions are defined as transformations from the image memory domain to the display domain, which may permanently alter image memory values. This paper describes minimum hardware constraints and the scope of modifications necessary to implement different image processors within the Earth Resources Laboratory Applications Software (ELAS) software environment. It also contrasts the impact on software engineering principles related to the implementation of low-level software to support the imaging functions. Keywords: Landsat, Thematic Mapper data, Modules, Callable subroutines, Image processing, Software, Hardware, Computer programs.
