Epidemiological and Epizootiological Investigations of Filoviruses in the Central African Republic

Abstract

The 1987 field studies have focused on 2 villages, Gordil and Ouandja. The main results of these prospective studies begun in 1985 show a higher prevalence in Ouandja females than in males, several high titered seroconversions a higher rate of seropositivity in outlying areas (close to croplands) than in areas with high density population, a low prevalence in rodents and high prevalence in dogs. These meaningful results must be confirmed and extended so that we can accurately define the epidemiology, ecology and pathogenicity of the filoviruses in the CAR.
