On the Privacy Problems Involved in Allowing Access to Computers via the Public Telephone System

Abstract

This report discusses some privacy problems involved in allowing access to computers over the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). The relevant aspects of current land-line PSTN and cellular radio operations are described and the weaknesses of the access controls of current computer systems are discussed.
