Design Criteria for Process Wastewater Pretreatment Facilities

Abstract

Many industrial wastewater streams can be discharged into Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTW); however, they must meet prescribed characteristics, and concentrations of specific contaminants must not be exceeded. Wastewater sources on Air Force bases and the corresponding wastewater characteristics are described, applicable discharge limits are reviewed, and typical pretreatment process sequences which would be effective in bringing these wastewater classes identified in the report. A description of wastewater treatment processes is included, and design equations and procedures for the processes are provided in the appendixes.
