Joint Logistics Commanders' Biennial Software Workshop (4th) Orlando II: Solving the PDSS (Post Deployment Software Support) Challenge Held in Orlando, Florida on 27-29 January 87. Volume 2. Proceedings
Abstract
Orlando II is the fourth in a series of biennial workshops focusing on relevant software support issues pertinent to Mission Critical Computer Resources (MCCR). The previous workshops, Monterey I & II and Orlando I, were instrumental in the identification of issues that could be addressed in Department of Defense standards for the development of mission critical systems with embedded computers. The central theme of Orlando II was Solving the PDSS challenge. The workshop addressed all aspects of Post Deployment Software Support (PDSS) to identify areas which offer significant payoffs in terms of cost reduction, improved system reliability, and streamlining the PDSS process. Specific panel topics were as follows: PDSS Planning During Development, Forecasting PDSS Resource Requirements, Software Change Process, PDSS Standards, PDSS Management Indicators and Quality Metrics, Human Resources in PDSS, Software Technology Transition, and MCCR Security. Orlando II addressed the problems causing the current crisis in support of MCCR. The workshop reinforced the fact that more cooperation is needed among the Services. This Volume presents the workshop proceedings providing the details of each panels products and recommendations, and the guest speaker presentations.
