Experimental Guidelines for the Design of Turbine Rotor Fragment Containment Rings

Abstract

Results of experimentation to determine design guidelines for turbine rotor fragment containment rings are presented in this report. The project consisted of two tasks. Task 1 was an investigation of the containment characteristics of cloth rings. Task 2 determined the engine casing thickness required for single and triple blade containment. This effort was conducted as part of the overall Rotor Fragment Protection Program. Rotors; Fragment protection; Blade containment; Rotor failures; Containment rings.
