A Numerical Model Analysis of Mississippi River Passes Navigation Channel Improvements. Report 5. Three-Dimensional Numerical Model Results

Abstract

Southwest Pass of the Mississippi River, where it meets the Gulf of Mexico, was modeled using a three-dimensional numerical model as a part of an extensive testing program to determine the effects of deeping the Mississippi River navigation channel. The three-dimensional finite element model, RMA-10, was used to duplicate the complex salinity and velocity conditions experienced at the Mississippi River entrance.
