Production of Atomic and Molecular Radiation by Electron Impact

Abstract

Electron impact excitation cross sections of the 1 Sigm a (+) sub u yields a 1 Pi sub g emission band of N2 molecules involving different vibrational quantum numbers has been measured. Excitation of the vibrational levels of the c'sub 4 state is analyzed in terms of the Franck Condon factors and perturbation by the b'1 Sigma (+) sub u state. Nonlinearity in the pressure dependence of the emission signal is studied. Optical cross sections have been measured for emission lines of 04 ions produced by electron impact on 02 molecules.
