CW Excimer Laser

Abstract

An investigation of feasibility of cw or quasi-cw operation of waveguide XeCl excimer lasers is described. Work was conducted under a Phase I SBIR contract. Double pulse fluorescence recovery measurements were carried out on XeCl laser gas mixtures contained by glass or quartz tubes of submillimeter bore and excited by a pulsed microwave source. Optical gain and loss during and after excitation also was measured using pump-and-probe techniques, and double pulse laser data were collected. Results of the study indicate that laser kinetic processes will support XeCl waveguide laser operation at duty factors of several percent provided that discharge tubes of sufficiently small bore are utilized.
