Aircraft Maintenance Officers: A Look to the Future

Abstract

Remarks on some historical aspects of the structure, duties, and responsibilities of the aircraft and munitions maintenance officer career field. A description of current Air Force accession, classification and training policy is compared to projected advances in technology and changes in organizational concepts to highlight the potential mismatch in maintenance officer preparedness for the challenges of tomorrow. Several potential shortfalls are noted. Five ways to overcome the existing problems are suggested.
