RPV (Remote Piloted Vehicle) Applications in the U. S. Navy

Abstract

This report describes the status of the U.S. Navy's remote piloted vehicle (RPV) program. It also presents numerous possible applications which exploit many of the RPV's capabilities. The author questions the aggressiveness and direction of the program and recommends that the program be modified so that it may fully exploit the RPVs' potentials. Appendices provides: 1) data on vehicle and payload capabilities of RPVs which are in current production or which are under development; and 2) a historical military perspective of the RPV from its birth to the present.
