Marine Biotoxins: Laboratory Culture and Molecular Structure

Abstract

Dinoflagellates, Gambierdiscus toxicus, were collected at different sites on the island of O'ahu. Cultures of a number of clones have been started and are being maintained. Ciguatoxin is being extracted from the viscera and flesh of yellowtail amberjack, Seriola dumerilii, which originated in the Northwest Hawaiian Islands and was shown to be toxic by the Hokama stick test.
