Implications of the Air Force Reliability and Maintainability Program on AFLC (Air Force Logistics Command) Transportation
Abstract
The object of this research is to provide a comprehensive overview of the Air Force Reliability and Maintainability (R&M 2000) Program's effect on Transportation in the area of Traffic Management and to look into future distribution trends to suggest areas of opportunity for Transportation to enhance its support of the systems subjected to the R&M 2000 processes. This study encompasses the impact on R&M on Air Force Traffic Management policy, attitudes, techniques, and issues. In addition to examining the changes being brought about by the R&M 2000 program, some of the developments in transportation and logistics management that are occurring parallel to the R&M 2000 program are also discussed. Results of this investigation indicates that the institutionalization of the R&M 2000 program has not progressed to the level needed to influence Transportation policy. AFLC has created a Process Action Team (PAT) to address this situation. The characteristics of the PAT are discussed, along with relatively recent developments in distribution and Transportation, such as the European Distribution System (EDS) and LOG-X. Theses.
