Establishment of a Rubella Screening and Immunization Program at the US Army Community Hospital, Fort Carson, Colorado

Abstract

This study developed a rubella screening and immunization program for health care personnel in an U.S. Army Medical Treatment Facility. All hospital personnel; military, civilian, and volunteer, participated in the program aimed at reducing the possible transmission of the adult-contracted Rubella disease. The study formulated the testing procedures and that the Preventive Medicine Activity would monitor the program progress and results. The research indicated that the herd immunity theory did not fully protect hospital staff and patients from contracting or transmitting the rubella disease with the most susceptible patient being the pregnant female. Keywords: Health care facilities, Rubella screening and Immunization program.
