A Study of the Delivery of Adult Walk-In Primary Care at Womack Army Hospital, Fort Bragg, North Carolina
Abstract
This study was undertaken to determine how Level 111A patients (APC Model 13) should be treated upon arrival to an emergency room. The author noted that such patients were being referred inappropriately to an AMOSIST. The AMOSIST wasted considerable time consulting with a physician, because the patient's problem was beyond the level of the AMOSIST's training. As a result, a backlog of patients waiting to see the AMOSIST occurred, patients were in danger of receiving inadequate care, and the hospital was risking medical-legal action. The author examined alternatives and concluded that referring Level 111A patients to a medical clinic was the best solution.
