British Defense Policy: A New Approach?

Abstract

This thesis traces the development of British defense policy and its component organizations from the 14th century until present day. In depth analysis of the Royal Navy, Army, Royal Air Force, and Ministry of Defense is provided. Further, it compares the record of the Thatcher governments concerning British defense policy with those of previous governments and monarchs, concluding that Mrs. Thatcher's treatment of defense is more correctly described as 'more of the same' rather than a 'new approach'.
