New Fluoride Glasses for the Preparation of Infrared Optical Fibers

Abstract

New indium based fluoride glasses have been optimized in order to prepare core-clad preforms and optical fibers. Conditions of fiber drawing have been investigated versus different parameters such as viscosity, glass and crystallization temperatures, moisture corrosion, glass composition, critical cooling rate...These new Zr free glasses appear to be good candidates for obtaining optical fibers operating in the 0.2 - 5 um optical window.
