Knowledge Representation for C(3)I

Abstract

This project investigated the representational requirements and the computer implementation requirements for applying the State of Affairs (SA) approach to a central type of I&W problem. The SA approach to description psychology provides formal methodology for dealing explicitly and systematically with reality and reality concepts in a scientifically viable way that lends itself to computer-based implementation. The main knowledge base requirements were identified as tables of social practice representations and scenario representations, together with several auxiliary files. The main database requirements were identified as a fact file summarizing observations and auxiliary files for statistical and SA facts derived from the fact file and the knowledge base. A prototypical computer implementation was developed. SA representation is shown to be a sound foundation for event databases and for performing interference using information systems.
