Enhancements to the Command and Control Workstation of the Future

Abstract

The modern tactical commander has a flood of sensory and intelligence information at his disposal. A tool is required to sort the information that is most pertinent to the decisions he must make at that time. The Command and Control Workstation of the Future (CCWF) is an interactive, near real-time system that displays multiple windows providing visualization of the terrain in both two and three dimensions. The terrain is drawn with Defense Mapping Agency Digital Terrain Elevation Data using three image resolutions in order to display large areas of terrain. This study consists of enhancements to prior work on the CCWF. The focus of this thesis is in two areas. One is enhancing the maintainability of the CCWF system through use of standard software engineering techniques (i.e. modularization, descriptive labeling, etc.). The second focus is on improving the user interface of the CCWF.
