Why Successful Recruiters Do Not Convert to Recruiting Military Occupational Specialty

Abstract

This report identifies reasons why successful, detailed recruiters do not convert to the Recruiting (MOS) Military Occupational Specialty. Focus group interviews with former recruiters were used to identify areas of satisfaction and dissatisfaction. A survey instrument was developed to correspond with the factor identified by the focus group interviews. The survey was distributed and analyses suggest that recruiters do not convert because of the personal and professional sacrifices required by USAREC. Two strategies are recommended for improving conversion rates: (1) Approaching the pool of former detailed recruiters, and (2) Addressing the morale and quality of life issues associated with recruiting.
