Characterization of Crystallizable Polybutadiene Blends

Abstract

This report discusses the characterization of binary blends of 1,4 trans and 1,2 syndiotactic polybutadienes of various compositions. The blends were prepared by solution precipitation and analyzed by means of differential scanning calorimetry, Rheovibron viscoelastometer, wide angle X-ray scattering (WAXS), and light microscopy. The blends were not isomorphic. The melting point (Tm) and glass transition (Tg) of the trans component were affected to a greater degree by the presence of the syndio component than the syndio Tm and Tg values were affected by the trans component. Keywords: Polymer blends, Semicrystalline polymers, Morphology of polymer blends.
