Synthetic Approaches to TAT

Abstract

This Final Technical Report describes some approaches to 1,3,5,7- tetraacetyl-octahydro-1,3,5,7-tetrazocine TAT . The development of novel and simple TAT syntheses of easily accessible starting materials belongs to the very basic and substantial requirements in the field of TAT and HMX research. Therefore this project belongs to the leading and very important desires of the Synthesis Section of ARDEC, Dover, NJ (E.E. Gilbert, private communication). In pursuing this project, the following strategies have been developed and checked experimentally: (1) Degradation experiments of urotropine (hexamethylenetetramine) and 3,7-diacetyl-1,3,5,7-tetraazabicyclo3.3.1 nonane (DAPT). (2) Approaches to total syntheses of tetrazocanes according to the general scheme: 2 C-N-C + 2 N-R and 2 N-C-N + 2 0=C. Synthetic approaches; Urotropine; Hexamethylenetetramine; Degradation; Total syntheses.
