Investigation of Li/SO2 Cell Hazards. 3. Raman Spectroscopy of Lithium Dithionite

Abstract

The preparation of pure lithium dithionite was investigated using several synthetic methods. Raman spectroscopy reveals that lithium dithionite undergoes a low temperature lattice transformation that demonstrates the existence of two forms of dithionite. Transition metal ions were briefly evaluated as a first step in altering the SO2 reduction mechanism or for stabilizing dithionite. Raman spectroscopy, Lithium dithionite, Sulfur dioxide battery.
