Structural Limitations of Model Reference Adaptive Controllers

Abstract

A general framework is developed for the analysis of performance and robustness properties of tuned adaptive control systems. The analysis is specialized to the case of Model Reference Adaptive control. It is shown that certain combinations of performance objectives and a priori uncertainty lead to unsolvable MRAC design problems, while other combinations lead to problems which can be solved.
