The p-Version of the Finite Element Method for Domains with Corners and for Infinite Domains

Abstract

A special approach to deal with elliptic problems with singularities is introduced. It is shown that this approach, to be called the auxiliary mapping technique, in the frame of the p-version of the finite element method yields an exponential rate of convergence at virtually no extra cost and from the view-point of implementation it is the easiest and the cheapest method of all. It is also shown that this technique can be used for elliptic problems on unbounded domains in R-sq as well. Keywords: Auxiliary mapping technique, The p-version of the finite element method; Domains with corners; Unbounded domains; Circular arc property; Conforming element.
