Abstract

The Joint Precision Optics Technical Group (JPOTG) was chartered under the Joint Group on industrial Base (JGIB) of the Joint Logistics Commanders to perform the following tasks: 1) identify the Military Services projected peacetime surge and mobilization requirements for Precision Optics; 2) identify projected requirements for Strategic Defense initiative (SDI) Optics; 3) Assess the capability of U.S. Precision Optics Base to provide for these requirements; 4) Assess the degree of erosion in capability that has occurred because of foreign competition; and 5) Prepare recommendations to eliminate any production shortfalls which may be identified. This report presents the study results of the (JPOTG) and provides its major findings, conclusions and recommendations.
