Birth, Death and Transfiguration; The Synthesis of Preceramic Polymers, Their Pyrolysis and Their Conversion to Ceramics (Preprint)

Abstract

An introduction to preceramic polymer chemistry. Applications of preceramic polymers; chemical considerations important in their design and synthesis. Examples from known silicon-containing preceramic polymers. Inorganic and organometallic polymers are those macromolecular systems in which the polymer backbone contains elements other than the carbon, oxygen and nitrogen usually found in organic polymers.
