On the Problem of Security in Data Bases

Abstract

This paper addresses the fundamental problems of providing multi- level secure database management systems. It is shown that the Inference problem arises because data is used as an addressing mechanism. Existing solutions are described, but these are shown to have unfortunate consequences for the database user and so alternatives are suggested. The problems of Aggregation and Deductions from real world knowledge are also considered.
