Transducer Development for Explosive Measurements

Abstract

The objective of this report is to present an overview of recent efforts to develop new measurement techniques to improve high explosive munition diagnostics. The development of high explosive munitions requires an accurate measurement of weapon effectiveness. One of the main elements of weapon effectiveness testing is the measurement of the explosive blast pressure. Blast waves are characterized by parameters such as initial shock intensity (peak overpressure), duration of the blast wave, impulse (force-time product) per unit area, and time of arrival of the wave. The standard method of measuring these parameters is with the use of free air blast pressure transducers.
