Verification and Validation of Brigade/Battalion Simulation (BBS): Data Base Verification, Random Number Generation, Detection/Acquisition, and Movement

Abstract

The Brigade/Battalion Simulation (BBS) stochastic model simulates battle at the tactical level of Blue brigade/battalion against Red division/ regiment. The model is designed as a command-and-control trainer for the brigade adn battalion commanders and their staffs. The purpose of verification and validation (V&V) of BBS is to enhance the overall credibility of the model and to reduce/eliminate any negative training effects. This V&V effort ensures that the methodology in the model is implemented correctly (verification) and that results from the methodology replicate battlefield reality (validation). This document evaluates four sections of the model (data base verification, random number generation, detection/acquisition, and movement).
