European Crosswind Frequencies
Abstract
This report documents the results of a study to determine percent occurrence frequency of crosswinds at 39 selected European bases. It provides 'percent frequency of occurrence' tables for crosswinds greater than or equal to 10, 15, 20, and 25 knots under various weather conditions such as precipitation and below-freezing temperature. Sixteen tables are provided for each base, and each set is followed by a 'number of actual cases' table. The study should help forecasters, planners, and engineers in estimating crosswind possibilities at various speed thresholds, and should further help in estimating those during rain, snow, and below-freezing conditions. Keywords: Meteorological data; Military facilities, Landing fields, Data tables; Climatology; Weather; Wind; Crosswinds; Rain; Snow; Below-freezing temperature; Frequency; Percent occurrence frequency; Europe.
