A Study to Determine a Training Plan for the Medical Records Personnel of Brooke Army Medical Center in Preparation for the Implementation of the Diagnosis Related Group System

Abstract

This is a descriptive study to determine a training plan for the Medical Records Department at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) in preparation for the implementation of the diagnosis-related group (DRG) system. The research methodology used in this study included: personal and telephonic structured interviews of medical records experts; a comprehensive literature review; construction, validation, and testing of a knowledge level survey; administration of the survey; and an analysis of results using descriptive statistics. The study concludes with a proposed training plan that will reach all BAMC Medical Records personnel. In addition to imparting the necessary information to the Medical Records staff initially, the training plan is designed to sustain the concepts which are taught. The plan parallels the time line of published Department of Defense/Army Medical Department planned activities regarding DRG implementation.
