The Automatic Detection of Anti-Collision Lights

Abstract

Recent instances of mid-air collisions and near-misses between aircraft at low level have emphasized the need for some form of aid to provide earlier visual warning of potentially dangerous situations. This memorandum describes the nature of the problem to be overcome and proposes the use of a cockpit image sensor and advanced image processing techniques.
