DDN Trusted Guard Gateway. Trusted Guard Gateway (TGG) Technology Assessment. Phase 2

Abstract

This document provides to the Defense Communications Agency (DCA) the results of a technology assessment effort made for the purpose of determining the acquisition and/or development potential of a specialized gateway that would interconnect communities with differing security characteristics (such as allowing multilevel secure, classified hosts operating at the unclassified level to communicate with hosts in the unclassified segment.) Section 2.0 of this report reviews the Trusted Guard Gateway (TGG) definition and requirements as outlined in Phase I of this effort. Section 3.0 details the Technology Assessment approach and methodology and provides profiles of the various trusted operating system and gateway vendors surveyed. Section 4.0 presents an overview of an alternative approach to the TGG in the form of an application relay. Keywords: Computer gateways; Computer communications; Secure communications; Computer networks; Internetworking; Trusted operating systems; Defense data network.
