Cost Considerations of an Integrated Design-Manufacturing-Support System

Abstract

This document is an annotated briefing that focuses on the cost considerations of integrated technical information systems. Primary emphasis is placed on Computer-Aided Acquisition and Logistics Support (CALS) systems. After a review of selected DoD prime contractors' practices, a cost/benefit structure that is appropriate for use with advanced technology information systems is presented and discussed. A summary of the costs and benefits of computer-aided systems is presented, together with examples of management information systems appropriate to the cost/benefit structure.
