Establishment of a Separate Psychology Service at Walter Reed Army Medical Center

Abstract

At Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRMAC), a separate Psychology Service was established in May, 1988. An implementation plan was developed as well as an evaluation plan. The evaluation was conducted from May, 1988, to May 1989. The missions, personnel, organization structure, productivity, quality measures of complaints, staff satisfaction, patient satis-satisfaction, access, and external/internal quality review of the Psychology Service were examined. The separate Psychology Service functioned well. It was recommended that separate Psychology Services be established at other Medical Centers having psychology training programs (Eisenhower AMC, Madigan AMC, and Tripler AMC). To enhance leadership opportunities and career progression for clinical psychologists, and authorized 06 position needs to be created for each separate Psychology Service.
