Attempted Synthesis of 1,4-Dinitro(3,4-b)-(3,4-e)Difurazanopiperazine

Abstract

The synthesis of 1,4-Dinitro-(3,4-b)-(3,4-e)Difurazanopiperazine (CL- X) was attempted. Condensation of the Dilithio anions of N,N-disubstituted- diaminofurazans with cyanogen oxide gave 1,4-disubstituted-(3,4-b)furazano-5,6- dioximinopiperazines. Ring closure with sodium hydroxide in ethylene glycol at 150c for 2 hours yielded 1,4-disubstituted-(3,4-b)-(3,4-e)difurazanopiperazines. Attempt to convert these precursors into CL-X is described. A successful synthesis of CL-X was not achieved.
